StrongerLife’s Power Workout Featured in The New York Times

StrongerLife- Fitness for 55+ was recently featured in The New York Times’ article “The Power Building Workout.” The article highlights the increasing recognition of the importance of building power, particularly for healthy aging.

Power, the ability to use muscles explosively, is crucial for daily activities such as lifting, stopping a fall or getting out of a chair. The sit-to-stand test is recommended for individuals over 65 to assess leg power. If lacking, three simple moves are suggested: squats, hinges, and pushes, focusing on both power and strength. For those with more advanced fitness, incorporating weights is advised, with specific movements like dumbbell snatch, dumbbell power clean, slams, and squat jumps to enhance explosive power throughout the body.

Additionally, a power skip is introduced as an advanced exercise requiring existing power and balance. The article emphasizes the importance of consistent training and progression, to stimulate power-producing muscle fibers. Even if not perfect, incorporating these exercises into a routine can be beneficial for maintaining power as one age.
